• Pat Mitchell is President and CEO of The Paley Center for Media whose mission is to further understanding of media’s role, past, present and future.

    Mitchell began her media career as a journalist and through the next three decades, as a white house correspondent, news anchor and reporter, contributor to NBC’s TODAY program, documentary producer, and Host and Executive Producer of her own national talk show, WOMAN TO WOMAN, Mitchell’s work has been recognized with forty-four Emmy Awards, five Peabody’s, and two Academy Award nominations.

    Pat Mitchell is one of the few women to move from positions in front of the camera to executive leadership in the media business, becoming the President of Ted Turner’s production company with responsibilities for programming for all the Turner cable networks. During her tenure at Turner Broadcasting and later Time Warner, Mitchell produced more than 400 hours of original programming, including the 24 hours documentary series, Cold War,  and was on Turner’s executive team that launched new channels and media businesses.

    In 2000, Mitchell became the first woman and first producer to become President and CEO of PBS, the national public broadcasting service responsible for 346 public television stations and national programming for PBS.

    Among her many awards and recognitions for her professional and philanthropic work, Mitchell has received the Sandra Day O’Connor Award for Leadership, the Women in Cable and Telecommunications Woman of the Year Award, and recently inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame. She was named one of Hollywood’s 100 Most Powerful Women and recently Newsweek’s 150 Women who Shake the World

    Ms. Mitchell serves on the boards of the Sundance Institute, the Mayo Clinic, the Acumen Fund for entrepreneurship, VDAY (a movement to end violence against women) and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the International Women’s Forum. Mitchell also sits on the corporate board of AOL.

    In her current role at the Paley Center since 2007, Mitchell is focused on using the center’s convening power to lead the conversations on the transformative and ever evolving media landscape.
